Palm Beach Tech Hosts Annual ‘Hackathon’ Oct. 23-25 to Help Two South Florida Not-for-Profits, Feeding South Florida and Gift of Life Marrow Registry
Palm Beach Tech, celebrating its 5th year leading the expansion of South Florida’s footprint in the technology sector, is hosting its annual Hackathon on Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25. This year’s theme, ‘Coding for Good,’ will benefit two South Florida not-for-profit organizations, Feeding South Florida and the Gift of Life Marrow Registry.
The Hackathon attracts developers, designers, project managers and entrepreneurs from across South Florida who compete in teams of 2-6 people to develop a technology solution to a challenge presented by the not-for-profit organizations. Teams will have 24 hours to vet ideas and create their project, then present it to a panel of industry experts the following day. The top three winning teams will receive cash prizes of $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000, respectively.
“This year, we wanted to kick our Hackathon up a major notch and offer real technology solutions to two local charities who could truly benefit from these incredibly talented teams,” said Nikki Cabus, Vice President of Development. “Feeding South Florida and Gift of Life are two vitally important organizations that need a little extra help serving their constituents during the pandemic, and we’re incredibly proud to facilitate this opportunity to help them.”
The event has typically been held at the Boca Raton headquarters of Office Depot, the Hackathon’s Presenting Sponsor, but teams will ‘hack from home’ this year to ensure participants’ safety.
While Hackathon teams mostly consist of coders and designers, Palm Beach Tech is encouraging anyone with project management skills and creative entrepreneurs to enter. Individual registration is $25 and the form can be found HERE.
