Tropical Financial Credit Union recently held its annual meeting and two board members--Betty Diamond and Mike Perez—were each re-elected to a new three-year term. During an executive session that immediately followed, Jose Belaustegui was appointed board chairman for another year.

At the annual meeting, the Board recognized Tropical Financial’s 85th anniversary. Staff presented several documents related to the March 13, 1935 founding, which included an organizational certificate, a photo of four founders taken at the 1969 annual meeting and a photo taken from the first day in operation.

“We are thankful for those before us who had the foresight to preserve this history and thankful to our members for being part of the present and future success,” said Richard Helber, president/CEO.

The Board also received an update on the continued expansion of electronic banking services and rollout of new products in 2020. Tropical Financial introduced a new service that allows members to monitor their credit scores online or on their smartphones and tablets and receive notifications when other organizations view their reports. Tropical Financial also introduced a Daily Rewards account that pays members $.02 every time they used their debit card, and the Perk Debit account which bundles additional benefits such as smart phone insurance and ID theft insurance. There is also a new credit card that offers members three times rewards on all purchases.
