YMCA of the Palm Beaches Implements COVID-19 Safety Guidelines During 6th Annual Golf Classic

Funds Raised will Support Financial Assistance Program

Hosting fundraising events in the time of COVID-19 is no easy task, however, the YMCA of the Palm Beaches has ensured that every necessary precaution will be taken to keep its golfers safe during its 6th Annual Golf Classic Saturday, September 19, 2020. The event will be hosted at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens and will be played on The Champ, home of the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic.

“Palm Beach County and the South Florida PGA have done an outstanding job outlining COVID-19 safety guidelines for the golf industry. We have followed the government guidelines to the letter, and in many cases have taken safety precautions one step further to ensure the safety of all,” said Jane Broderick, PGA National Resort & Spa Club Manager. “As a result, we have had the pleasure of hosting many charitable tournaments like YMCA of the Palm Beaches, while continuing to receive support from our community of members and visitors since reopening.

Support for this year’s tournament is crucial as funds raised will help offset decreased revenues and increased expenses incurred through the COVID-19 crisis. The YMCA of the Palm Beaches has continued to provide essential child care services to working parents since mid-March and will continue to be a resource by providing all-day virtual learning care for local families this fall.

“Over the past five months, through this pandemic, The Y has had to spend more to serve fewer people in order to keep everyone safe,” said Tim Coffield, CEO and President of the YMCA of the Palm Beaches. “Monies raised will help us bridge the gap through these challenging times. At The Y, we have a motto, “Stronger Together,” and that is why we are asking golfers in our community to rally around The Y to help us continue to provide programs and services to those in need.”

Supporters will have the rare opportunity to play where the pros play on the beautiful Championship course. The first tee off for teams will begin at 7:30 a.m. to start the round, followed by lunch, a silent auction, and an awards ceremony. Tickets are $300 per golfer.

About the YMCA of the Palm Beaches

Since 1917, YMCA of the Palm Beaches has served Palm Beach County, working side-by-side with local families and neighbors to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. With a focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, The Y has a goal of never turning away an individual or family from a needed program or service due to their inability to pay. Thanks to the generous support of those in the community, the YMCA of the Palm Beaches is able to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in financial assistance each year.
