City of Weston and Title Sponsor Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital to Present Event; Sponsorships Available

The Rotary Club of Weston is again gearing up for its Rotary Run for Tomorrow and Fitness & Health Festival, with events taking place from Saturday, Dec. 5–Sunday, Dec. 13. While all run events (5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge) will be held virtually, the Health & Fitness Festival will take place live on Dec. 5. The City of Weston and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital - the event’s title sponsor - are presenting the event.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all runners will participate at a location of their choice and complete their run any time between Dec. 5–13. Run results will be tracked by RaceJoy and automatically uploaded to a central data base. Artfully designed runner medals and hi-tech dri-fit shirts will be provided to all runners.

5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay online runner registration forms and information are located at https://tinyurl.com/y53zqmrb. The cost to participate in the Half Marathon is $65 per person plus $5.90 signup fee, the Half Marathon Relay is $145 per team plus $10.70 signup fee, the 5K is $35 per person plus $5 signup fee, and the 10K is $35 per person plus $5 signup fee.

Friends, families and kids of all ages can participate in the Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge and the Health & Fitness Festival, a health and wellness event open to the entire community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure that social distancing guidelines can be observed, the Festival will take place at multiple locations throughout the City of Weston, such as city parks and various business locations. Virtual participation options will be available as well. A range of different fitness, wellness and health activities will be offered at every location. In addition, participants can complete online tasks. Participation in the festival will be free of charge.

In October, information will be provided about the Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge to students attending elementary schools in Weston. There is no cost to register for the Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge, but registration is necessary. All participants of the Mayor’s Challenge will receive a free Festival T-Shirt, giveaways and can participate in multiple raffles and competitions at the Festival. Elementary schools can win cash prizes, and the school with most participants percentagewise will be recognized with the Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge award.

“The Rotary Club of Weston is very thankful to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for its generous sponsorship, which ties into the City of Weston’s dedication and commitment to infrastructure and programs that promote exercise, safety and a healthy lifestyle,” said Frank Dreier of the Rotary Club of Weston.

The City of Weston has been recognized as a Healthy Weight Community Champion by the Florida Department of Health for the past five years.
