Grab-and Go Meal Distribution to Take Place While Broward Schools Remain 100% Online

Who/What:

In its commitment to serving the community, Broward County Public Schools will continue to offer its grab-and-go meals for breakfast and lunch starting Aug. 19 (the first day of school) with an expansion to an additional afternoon distribution session (3–5 p.m.). After Aug. 19, the grab-and-go meal distributions will take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 11 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3–5 p.m., while Broward County Public Schools remain 100% online.

Broward County Public Schools will utilize 100% online instruction until at least October 2020, when the district will reassess if conditions are safe to reopen campuses, according to a proposed district plan.

Grab-and-go meals will be available for students enrolled at all elementary, middle and high schools in the Broward County Public Schools system. Students or their parents can pick up multiple meals at a time by walking or driving through the car or bus loop to reduce risk of exposure. Meals are provided in bundles, and are not available for individual meal purchase. It is strongly recommended that students pick up meals at their home school for ease of service.

As each car pulls forward, the student is required to state his or her name, and the name will be recorded as receiving meals. Parents must have identification for their student to pick up meals if the student is not present. Recommended forms of identification include student IDs, report cards, and birth certificates. Identification must be present at each meal service.

Broward County Public Schools will follow the National School Lunch Program, which requires that students are served meals based on their meal eligibility: free, reduced or paid. Broward County Public Schools offers Universal Free Breakfast for all of its enrolled students. Meal prices for lunch will be based on each student’s eligibility.

Broward County Public Schools families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced priced meals at myschoolapps.com.

Broward County Public Schools families are also encouraged to pay online for student meals through myschoolbucks.com prior to proceeding to the distribution sites to enhance the speed of the car line.
