At a time when golf courses are declining and closing at increasing numbers throughout Florida and across the U.S., renowned South Florida developer and longtime Emerald Hills resident Ari Pearl and Emerald Hills resident Mickey Taillard are proposing to redevelop Hollywood, Florida’s historic Emerald Hills golf course and clubhouse facilities. In addition, they are proposing to build new residences carefully located and spread out within five parcels on the 167-acre golf course, which is currently the longest course in Florida.
The main purpose of the redevelopment is to sustain the property/save it and make significant enhancements that will positively impact future generations of residents. Pearl and Taillard are committed to a deed restriction of the golf course to help ensure that the course remains as green space for the long term.
The proposal ? which is a solution to build on less than 10% of the existing golf course ? includes a Nicklaus Design golf course from the global design firm founded by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, a new clubhouse including contemporary luxurious amenities, and residential units including 416 luxury rental units, 30 townhomes and 40 golf villas, all environmentally correct and featuring a tropical feel.
Pearl, who has been a developer in South Florida since 2002, is known for his work on major projects throughout South Florida. Pearl’s PPG Development LLC is currently developing a $220 million mixed-use development on the 127-acre Diplomat Golf & Tennis Club site. The Club at Emerald Hills will be his fourth golf course project. Taillard is a resident of Emerald Hills who lives on the golf course.
Award-winning, world-renowned architect Kobi Karp of Kobi Karp Architecture and Interior Design Planning of Miami has been retained as the architect for the project.
Nicklaus Design will transform the golf course into one of the most prestigious 18-hole golf courses in South Florida ? a course that’s enjoyable and fun for the average player, while still challenging for more experienced players. The redesign will take into consideration the distinct character of Emerald Hills.
The golf course will offer reciprocity with other Jack Nicklaus International Golf Club courses all over the world. The club will require membership, and there will be a number of membership categories available suited to meet a variety of needs, including golf, tennis and social memberships. Additionally, residents of the City of Hollywood are eligible for membership at a discounted resident rate.
The new clubhouse will include a chic resort-style swimming pool, tennis center, modern banquet facility, restaurant, state-of-the-art fitness facility, locker rooms with treatment areas, indoor basketball court, kids club, hammock garden, members-only area, and much more.
The 416 contemporary one-bedroom, one-bathroom; two-bedroom, two-bathroom; and three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartments will be located on holes 18, 16 and 8. The contemporary, sophisticated 30 townhomes and 40 golf villas will be situated on the outskirts of the course.
“This redevelopment will play a major role in making The Club at Emerald Hills once again a focal point of the South Florida community,” said Pearl. “It will improve the standard of living in The Club at Emerald Hills’ immediate and surrounding areas, as well as increase property values and help preserve the course for future generations to enjoy.”
“The Club at Emerald Hills is a very important investment, not only for the golf course, club and residences themselves, but also the local community,” said Taillard. “As I see golf courses shutting down across the country at an alarming rate, it is of great importance to me to preserve and enhance this incredible South Florida gem.”
