Funded by the Community Foundation of Broward, mural to adorn South Florida’s first affordable housing community for LGBTQ+ seniors

ArtServe, in collaboration with The Pride Center at Equality Park in Wilton Manors, is seeking proposals from artists for the design of a 2,900-square-foot public art installation forThe Residences at Equity Park, South Florida’s first affordable housing community for LGBTQ+ seniors.

The installation will cover 1,535 square feet of the exterior of The Residences at Equality Park and 1,245 square feet of The Pride Center’s existing Schubert Building and will be highly visible from the highly traveled Dixie Highway.

“We want artists to feel emboldened by the bustling, life-enhancing, pro-health, diverse work of the nine organizations headquartered on the Equality Park campus,” ArtServe Board President Jason Hughes explained. “We want artists to use this inspiration to fuel their creativity toward a powerful, transformative, meaningful, bold design.”

Funded by the Community Foundation of Broward, the selected artist will earn $5,000 to design and execute the project called “The Murals at Equality Park.” Project submissions by professional and emerging adult artists can uploaded HERE. Deadline is June 15.

“We are seeking a clean, vibrant design that celebrates inclusivity and diversity and integrates elements representative of the South Florida LGBTQ+ community,” Hughes added. “This artwork should reflect Broward County’s commitment as a welcoming and inclusive community, complement the character of the building and inspire social interaction.”

Candidates must be professional artists or designers as validated by their resume, eligible to work in the U.S. and age 18 or older. Artists should demonstrate through their submission materials that they have the skills and experience to successfully complete the project. Candidates are eligible regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical ability. Broward resident artists are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Pride Center and ArtServe will review and select the artist who will be commissioned to create a series of three to six art pieces that might, for example, be a vibrant abstract or pattern design that could be arranged together to create an evocative, emotive, attractive composition, a set of re-occurring imagesor a cohesive mural with component parts.
