Area Stage Company (ASC), celebrating 30 years in Miami, has been awarded a grant from The Miami Foundation to produce a series of performances providing theatre artists from within South Florida’s LGBTQIA+ community a platform to collaborate and generate theatrical work on themes from queer perspectives.
Director, Simon Pincus, will be at the helm of this production, employing exercises to build a unified ensemble and establish a safe space for creating new work throughout an eight-week rehearsal process. As an ensemble, artists will discuss subjects in queer history, share and dissect their favorite works from queer artists/authors, and find commonality in shared experiences as an entry point for generating content. The end result will be an evening of music and storytelling.
The ensemble-based production will run for 6 performances during Pride Month in June. This project seeks to strengthen a sense of community for those who have ever felt marginalized for their sexuality or gender expression and celebrate the legacy of LGBTQIA+ creativity.
Area Stage Company is seeking those passionate about storytelling through music and theatre who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community to join our ensemble. Participants will be expected to contribute any talents they may have which may include skills as performers, playwrights, composers, lyricists, musicians, designers, dramaturgs and/or choreographers. ASC is casting in the spirit of inclusivity and aims for intersectionality in its representation of queer stories.
