Florida State University unveiled its 2020 Seminole 100 list Saturday, February 22, during a ceremony in Tallahassee hosted by the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship, part of the FSU College of Business. The list recognizes 100 of the fastest-growing businesses owned or led by FSU alumni, with Davie-based Clothes Bin® ranked No. 1 for this year.

Nick Boariu, co-founder and chief operating officer of Clothes Bin®, accepted the honor on behalf of the national textile recycling franchise. Sally McRorie, FSU provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, presented the top award to Boariu, a 2002 FSU College of Business marketing graduate, at the third annual event held at the University Center Club in Doak Campbell Stadium.

The mission of Clothes Bin® is to help people reach their entrepreneurial dream of business ownership through a simple, part-time and semi-absentee franchise model that promotes environmental stewardship, stimulates the economy and provides a source of clothes, shoes and textiles in the United States and throughout the world.

“Over the past year, I have been fortunate to become involved in three different Jim Moran Institute programs. I was happy to share in my acceptance speech details about the programs that the Jim Moran Institute offers and give a special thanks to my local South Florida office,” said Boariu. “I highly recommend small business owners apply for the Small Business Executive Program (SBEP) because you will find new ideas for your business, become more organized and recognize what you need to prioritize today to hit your goals tomorrow.”

In fall 2019, Boariu participated in the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship’s Small Business Executive Program (SBEP), where he honed his leadership skills and learned how to take his company to the next level. Held annually in the spring and fall, the SBEP provides participants with the skills and training needed to capitalize on business opportunities, implement best practice management and turn challenges into strategic advantage.

“We are thrilled that FSU has recognized Nick and Clothes Bin® for its tremendous success and growth,” said Jennifer Kovach, director of the Jim Moran Institute’s South Florida Operations. “In working with Nick while he participated in our Executive Program, it was easy to see his passion for his business. His commitment is evident through this prestigious honor.”

The 2020 Seminole 100 list features a wide range of companies across the country, with more than 70 of them located in Florida. To qualify for the Seminole 100, a company must have been in operation for at least three years and have been owned or led by an FSU graduate during that timeframe.

EY, Seminole 100 financial partner, verified the information from each company and ranked the businesses based on a compound annual growth rate.
