March is Women’s History Month and several organizations are celebrating with special events:
March 4 to 29
ArtServepresents (DIS)OBEDIENT: Redefining Feminism in a Fractured Reality in conjunction with Women’s History Month and in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. (DIS)OBEDIENT explores the issue of gender inequality through visual and performing arts. (DIS)OBEDIENT offers commentary on topics ranging from wage disparities and exploitative advertising to under representation in the art world and more. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents bring Trixie Mattel: Grown Up to the Amaturo Theater for an evening packed with music, comedy and unnecessary costume changes. Backed by a live band for the first time, this show will leave audiences jamming with flower power and wondering how the skinniest legend grew into one of the world's funniest comedienne. The Broward Center and Mark Cortale present Amour & After - Melissa Errico Sings The Music of Michel Legrand in the Amaturo Theater. Hailed by the Opera News as "The Maria Callas of American musical theater," Errico is one of the most versatile women to have come out of this Broadway's young generation. Paula Poundstone, one of our country's preeminent comedians, known for her smart, observational humor and spontaneous wit that won her the American Comedy Award for Best Female Standup Comic, comes to Parker Playhouse. An accomplished author, lecturer, host and actress, she's also a popular panelist on NPR's Wait, Wait…Don't Tell Me! The first woman to perform standup comedy at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, she is recognized in innumerable lists, documentaries and literary compendiums that note the influential standup comedians of our time. Frank Contemporaries at The Frank – 601 City Center Way, Pembroke Pines
A free monthly pop-up exhibition and meet-up for emerging creative and visual arts professionals to network and foster connections celebrating Women’s History Month by showcasing female artists of different creative backgrounds. Speaker Jillian Hundzynski will speak about about JAM hospitality group, what inspired her to start a business and how she got involved in planning artistic events and happenings. The event will also feature paintings by Diana Escamilla, paintings by Julia Dogan and graphic design work by Danielle Yerushalmi. Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
