House of Hope, the leading non-profit provider of substance abuse and behavioral health programming in Broward County, has received a $96,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Broward for its Road to Independence program, which has impacted nearly 2,000 House of Hope clients to date.
Now in its fourth year, the Road to Independence program will assist an additional 600 House of Hope residents in 2020, who are overcoming addiction and getting back on their feet. These residents will meet with employment specialists to prepare for the workforce and secure employment after overcoming their substance abuse challenges. Individualized case management and support will help House of Hope clients with GED preparation, vocational training programs and securing stable and affordable housing.

“Every day in Broward County, two people die of a drug overdose. Our mission at House of Hope is to decrease this staggering statistic and provide hope and healing to the individuals that we treat,” said House of Hope CEO Sue Glasscock. “We are very fortunate and humbled to receive this generous grant from the Community Foundation, which allows us to give our clients a second chance and the resources they need to become economically independent.”
The Foundation has identified economic independence as one of the 10 “Issues That Matter” in Broward County. The ongoing goal is to help reduce homelessness by transitioning people into stable housing and employment.
“Economic Independence grants empower struggling people to get back on track,” said Community Foundation Vice President of Community Impact Sheri Brown. “It’s a hand up, not a handout, that helps hardworking people move from struggling to thriving.”
