Las Olas Boulevard to host “Pinktober” for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Events to Support the American Cancer Society

Members of the Las Olas Association are coming together to turn Fort Lauderdale’s iconic and historic boulevard pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a series of Pinktober-themed events and offerings. Pinktober partners also include the Las Olas Company, American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink, the Riverside Hotel and Spirited South Florida “Real Men Drink Pink”Passport program that includes 15 participating restaurants.

Pinktober will officially launch at a free public photo shoot on October 1 at 10 a.m. with a line-up of pink vehicles, including a police cruiser, fire truck, tow truck and exotic car.Participants must wear pink and meet by 10 a.m. in the Riverside Hotel lobby at 650 E. Las Olas Blvd. The group will then walk down the Boulevard for the photo shoot.

Many of the restaurants, bars and retailers along Las OlasBoulevard will be hosting special events, turning their storefronts pink and offering pink craft cocktails and food specials. The entire Boulevard will be decked out in Pinktober banners and flags and staff will be wearing pink every Wednesday during October. “Hump Day” will also featureWarrior Wednesday Happy Hours, when Real Men Wear Pink candidates will be partnered with participating venues to help raise awareness and money for this important American Cancer Society campaign.(https://bit.ly/2ZcKWX9)

Heiko Dobrikow, General Manager and Executive Vice President, Riverside Hotel and Las Olas Company, is a 2019 Real Men Wear Pink candidate who has already raised more than $15,000 for the fight against breast cancer. He has pledged to wear a different pink accent piece throughout the month of October and can be seen at the various Warrior Wednesday Happy Hours, the Pinktoberfest at the Riverside on the last weekend of October, as well as the Making Strides Broward walk.

Pets are encouraged to get in the act as well during Pink Pooch Sundays, when patrons are encouraged to dress up their pets in pink and stroll the Boulevard. The perfect culmination to Pinktober will be the American Cancer Society’s the Making Strides Broward walk on October 26, starting from Huizenga Plaza on Las Olas Boulevard.

Throughout the month, participating restaurants and retailers will allow customers to add personal donations to the American Cancer Society to their bills.
