The Dr. M. Lee Pearce Foundation, Inc. welcomes Tatjana Rundek, M.D., Ph.D. as a new board member.

Rundek is a professor of neurology and public health sciences at the University of Miami and serves as executive vice chair for research and faculty affairs in the school’s department of neurology. She is also the scientific director of the Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine and has been honored as an Evelyn F. McKnight Endowed Chair for Learning and Memory in Aging.

“We are honored to have Dr. Rundek join The Dr. M. Lee Pearce Foundation board, said Charles Douglas, chairman of the board. “Her expertise in the field of translational medicine as well as knowing Dr. Pearce personally make her extremely qualified to assist the foundation with one of its mission’s to improve medical care with an emphasis on aging,” he continued.

Born and raised in Zagreb, Croatia, Rundek received her medical degree and neurology training at the University of Zagreb, earned a doctorate in neuroscience in Germany, and completed a research fellowship at Columbia University. Rundek was the first Fulbright Scholar at the Neurological Institute at Columbia University.

Dr. Rundek stated, “I am very honored to be joining the board of the Dr. M. Lee Pearce Foundation. In the past, Dr. Pearce and I had many scientific discussions regarding interventions for short and ultra-short term memory impairments. He was very interested in the biology of cognitive processes and urged me to accelerate the development of treatments for age-related memory loss. The Foundation’s mission to advance brain health through research, education, and the translation of discoveries to patient care is personal for me as Dr. Pearce always supported my work in this field.”

With his passing in October 2017, Miami Beach resident Dr. Pearce left in place a foundation dedicated to the support of classical music and to improving medical care with an emphasis on aging. The foundation recently supported multi-disciplinary research conducted by Harvard faculty who are studying some of the most pressing issues related to aging and age-related illness ranging from basic biology to policy. The funding supports experts throughout Harvard’s schools, institutes and affiliated hospitals.
