Business for the Arts of Broward (BFA) has welcomed the following new board members:
Shanti Bruce is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Writing and Communication, the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies, and the Department of Performing and Visual Arts in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), where she won the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award and the STUEY Administrator of the Year Award. Bruce has published five books, earned two international awards for published scholarship and has given more than 60 peer-reviewed and invited presentations. Prior to her work in academia, Bruce worked as a dance teacher and choreographer for eight years and performed in several theatrical productions, including the lead role in the Official State Outdoor Drama of Alabama: “The Miracle Worker.” For her acting, Bruce earned Best Actress awards from the State of Alabama and the Southeastern Theatre Conference.
Anabel Evora is senior director of development for The Everglades Foundation. Evora began her career in 1990 when she created and organized Aid-a-thon, a five-hour dance marathon to benefit the AIDS Foundation of Houston. The event was coined as the single most successful event and she was recognized as a major contributor in the fight against AIDS with AFH’s Wall of Honor Award. Subsequently, she worked at the White House during Bill Clinton’s administration and with the Human Rights Campaign, the largest political lobbying group in Washington, D.C. Previously Evora served as campaign director for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society where she orchestrated a record-breaking 10-week campaign and as chief philanthropy officer for Remote Area Medical, the nation’s largest non-governmental agency that operates mobile medical clinics that deliver free dental, vision and medical services to hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. A native of Puerto Rico of Cuban descent, Evora is an abstract painter whose passion for art developed as she was recovering from breast cancer treatment. She has a Master of Science in Fundraising and Grantmaking from New York University’s Heyman Center for Philanthropy and a B.S. in Public Relations and Marketing.
Tim Hogans is an external affairs area manager for Florida Power & Light Company. Prior to joining External Affairs in January 2015, Hogans served in multiple leadership roles within Customer Service Field Operations and Power Delivery over the past 16 years as small/medium business accounts regional manager for Dade and Broward Counties, engineering lead, resource lead, production lead, project designer and customer project manager. Hogans currently serves in several boards across South Florida, including Leadership Florida as the Gold Coast Regional Chair, Immediate Past Chairman of the Board for the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce, Past Chair of Leadership North Broward, Coral Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board, Secretary for Junior Achievement of South Florida and more. Hogans holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in electrical engineering from Florida State University. A 16-year resident of South Florida, Hogans is married and has two children.
Miguel Pilgram is founder of The Pilgram Group, a nine-year-old lifestyle brand based in Fort Lauderdale that spans from real estate renovating to eateries and executive suites. Prior to starting his own company, Pilgram served in the Navy, to which he attributes the discipline and philosophy he gained there to his success today. Upon finishing his service at the Navy, Pilgram worked security in casinos in the U.S. and Asia and later began working abroad for Star Cruises, a Chinese/Malaysian company that purchased Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) in 2002. Pilgram was tapped to assist in the handover of the global security/surveillance program and worked for NCL for a decade, becoming second in command of global security and surveillance in 2007. The success of the Pilgram Group has allowed Pilgram to become more involved with his community. He’s an avid supporter of the arts, culture and fashion and his community support mirrors his personal interests. His latest endeavor involves the opening of NYSW Jazz Lounge in 2018, recipient of the Fort Lauderdale Community Appearance Award.
