Young At Art Museum Celebrates its 30th Anniversary with a Concert, Cocktails, Craft Beer & Culinary Delights

4/9/19

April 27, 2019 | 7– 11pm at Young At Art Museum

Young At Art Museum is excited to invite the public to its 30 th Celebration, our biggest after hours event for adults to date celebrating three decades of unforgettable art experiences and community support that has helped YAA achieved its recognition as a groundbreaking arts initiative.Guests will be able to explore the museum after dark and be immersed in a unique night to remember combining live music, performance art, craft beer, culinary delights and creative cocktails. All proceeds from the event benefit Young At Art Museum’s community initiatives which bring art-based experiences to underserved communities where the opportunity to engage with art is limited by geography, ethnicity, economics or disability.

Visitors will find themselves in an interactive BarCade& Beer Garden featuring craft beer from selectlocal breweries. Here, guests can sip and play their way through artfully reimagined arcade games designed and created by locally and internationally acclaimed artists including including David Anasagasti, Hunter Jonakin, Samuel Lopez De Victoria and Christopher Ian Macfarlane. Each game will serve as a sneak preview of YAA’s upcoming summer exhibition ArtCade which guests will get to experience first.

This year the museum’s promenade will host all-you-can-eat tasting booths courtesy of YAA’s Favorite Local Restaurants. Culinary selections will be available throughout the museum from local eateries selected by YAA.Guests will also find open bars throughout the museum and within LightScapes where signature cocktails can be enjoyed while experiencing this large-scale, interactive exhibition by Miami-based multimedia artist Haiiileen, recently featured on Art Loft.

The first of two performances during the night will be led by New Times “Best Emerging Artist” Jen Clay whose sculptural fiber suits will be activated by live performers within and around her new exhibition Welcome to You & Me, an immersive installation combining textile sculpture and digitally mapped projections. This performance will be designed to complement this site-specific exhibition created in Clay’s singularly playful and otherworldly style specifically for the museum’s ConTemporary Gallery.

For the pinnacle of the evening the museum invites you to get lost in the film noir funk of Kendra Morris whose soulful, layered songs will envelop the CultureScapesGallery. Morris will be accompanied by her full band, including producer Jeremy Page. Originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, Morris rose to critical acclaim with singles including Concrete Waves from her 2012 album Banshee and her transformative cover of Pink Floyd’s Shine On You Crazy Diamond from her subsequent album Mockingbird. Platforms like NPR'S All Things Considered, Fuse and prominent soundtrack placements in shows and movies like Ray Donovan and Dead Man Down have shared her work with an ever-growing, international cult following. In addition to Morris' latest work,Babble, she has released singles via her musical side project with bandmates including Scarlett Johansson, Julia Haltigan, Holly Miranda and Este Haim as well as collaborations with MF Doom and Ghostface Killah.
