Classes to Introduce Children to Contemporary Art and Design Techniques

What/Who: The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is offering two summer camp programs consisting of five 2-week sessions. Each session will offer a different theme to introduce students to variety of contemporary art or design techniques.

MOCA Arts Camp is a studio-based art camp that will introduce students, ages 6 through 12, to contemporary art through hands-on projects. The camp will allow students to participate in daily discussions and present their work to family and friends in a fun and nurturing environment. Projects are inspired by MOCA’s exhibitions.

Dynamic Design Camp is a design-oriented camp where students, ages 11 through 13, will learn about the topics of arts including architecture, graphic design, design for living and more. Students will learn about materials and processes fundamental to daily life through museum discussions, 2D and 3D studio projects and field trips.

When: The classes will run from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • Session 2: June 24 – July 5 (no camp on July 4):Super Sculptors

  • Session 4: July 22 – August 2: Panoramic Portraits
  • Session 5: August 5 – August 16: Lino Lineup
  • August 15 –17: Artist Showcase


Dynamic Design Camp Themes:

  • Session 2: June 24 – July 5 (no camp on July 4):Interstitial Spaces
  • Session 3: July 8 – July 19:Perplexing Perspective
  • Session 4: July 22 – August 2: Mod Modular
  • Session 5: August 5 – August 16: MOCAzine
  • August 15 –17: Artist Showcase


Pre-care and extended care will be provided for an additional cost from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

How/Cost:

Cost per child:

  • $220 per 2-week session for the general public.
  • $180 per 2-week session for MOCA members, North Miami residents and city of North Miami employees.
  • $50 per week for pre-care and after-care from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.


Payment can be made in cash or via credit card. Advance purchase is recommended, as the Summer Camp programs frequently sell out prior to the event.

A limited number of scholarships are available to students with proof of enrollment in Miami Dade County Public Schools Free and Reduced Meals Program. For more information, please contact awright@mocanomi.org.

9:30AM-11:00AM (MOCA’s Pavilion Gallery) for all students enrolled in MOCA’s summer camps.

What to bring:

  • Campers should come with a positive attitude and ready to have fun!
  • Campers should dress for a mess and packing an extra t-shirt is recommended.
  • Campers should wear comfortable clothing including shorts or pants and must wear closed toed shoes. Crocs are not permitted unless they are worn with the back sandal strap on.
  • Campers should bring a healthy lunch and a snack.
  • Campers should not bring toys or electronics.
