More than 450 Broward County Public Schools teachers recently gathered at Broward Education Foundation’s 22nd Annual Innovative Teacher IDEA EXPO presented by Broward Teachers Union to share creative and leading-edge ideas that engage and motivate students.
The teachers experienced first-hand more than 50 innovative projects from local teachers that were funded by Broward Education Foundation grants. Educators collected ideas by viewing visual project displays illustrating effective and dynamic teaching strategies, participated in continuing education and received inspiration from exciting presentations.
“Broward Education Foundation, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, is proud to foster innovative teaching in Broward County Public Schools,” said Frank Horkey, Chair of Broward Education Foundation’s Board of Directors. “Teacher grants are a cornerstone of our organization and an invaluable asset for educators seeking to engage and propel students to higher levels of achievement.”
The innovative projects, brought to the IDEA EXPO by teachers from schools in Coral Springs, Davie, Hollywood, Tamarac, Miramar, Pompano Beach and more, focus on STEM, social emotional learning, reading and comprehension, the environment, nutrition and other timely subjects and topics. Teachers in attendance receive the tools needed to bring projects to life in their respective classrooms, much to the delight of their students.
In addition to Broward Teachers Union, sponsors included BrightStar Credit Union, Wells Fargo, State Farm, City of Hollywood and host Nova Southeastern University.

Broward Education Foundation was awarded the 2018 President’s Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Fort Lauderdale/Broward Chapter for these fundraising efforts.
