2nd Annual United Way's Women United Capitol Days & United State Meeting in Tallahassee, March 12–13

3/5/19

Nine volunteers of United Way of Broward County’s Women United - a powerful network of philanthropic women confronting head-on the most critical issues facing the community - will join United Way volunteers from across Florida at the 2nd annual Women United Capitol Days and State Meeting in Tallahassee, Florida from March 12–13. Sixty to 65 volunteers from across the state will unite the voices of Women United, which recognizes the power of a woman’s voice, and the leverage it can hold as a collective unit to inspire real social change through policy.

Sasha Moon, JM Family Enterprises, Inc. and Chair of United Way of Broward County’s Women United will serve as a panel speaker at the event.

This year, the event will include a Women United State Meeting for the first time. This meeting will enable members to share, as a group, their successes and challenges, as well as meet and collaborate with other Women United groups from across the state.

“The Women United Capitol Days and United State Meeting is a wonderful opportunity for our volunteers to make their voices heard about some of Broward County’s critical issues,” said Mary Beth Albritton, Director of Women's Philanthropy at United Way of Broward County. “By participating in the panel discussions, being an active part of the legislative landscape, and speaking with legislators, our volunteers hope to create change for those who need it the most.”

The legislative agenda will include financial stability, quality early learning, expanding access to healthcare, and supporting Florida’s veterans.

The schedule of events includes a public policy briefing: legislative landscape and issue update, Women United summit meeting, panel and table discussions, legislative meetings (advocates schedule their own visit with legislators), and networking events.

Kassaundra Escalera, Director of Women's Engagement & Marketing at United Way Worldwide will serve as the moderator; and Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Núñez will speak during the event. Panel speakers, in addition toSasha Moon, are Women United Chairs Cathy Alexander, Vice President Relationship Manager, TD Bank from Miami-Dade County and Amy Maguire, Principal, Shumaker Advisors from the Suncoast region.

Participating Women United regions, in addition to Broward County, are Big Bend, Brevard, Charlotte, Central Florida, Escambia, Heart of Florida, Lake & Sumter, Miami-Dade, Northeast Florida, Okaloosa/Walton, Suncoast, and Suwannee Valley.
