Tropical Financial Credit Union, a not-for-profit financial institution, is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program. This year, Tropical Financial will award five $1,000 scholarships to four high school students who plan on attending college later this year and one adult already enrolled.

The program is available to current credit union members or those who apply for membership before the application period ends March 30^th. People must live or work within Tropical Financial’s service areas which include Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin or St. Lucie Counties in Southeast Florida; Lee, Collier, Hendry or Sarasota Counties in Southwest Florida.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and write an essay summarizing their educational goals and how they have been helped financially by Tropical Financial. Other factors considered: community involvement, charity work and extracurricular activities.

“Giving back to the community and helping people are an important part of our culture,” said Rich Helber, president/CEO of Tropical Financial Credit Union. “We know how expensive college can be, and we are proud to be able to alleviate some of those costs for deserving area students.”
