Broward Schools Hosts Renowned Chef Clark Bowen of Miami’s Boulud Sud Mediterranean Restaurant - Feb. 27

2/25/19

Who/What:

This Wednesday, Feb. 27, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Food & Nutrition Services in conjunction with the national nonprofit Wellness in the Schools (WITS) will bring Chef Clark Bowen from Miami’s Boulud Sud Mediterranean restaurant to Pasadena Lakes Elementary School in Pembroke Pines and South Broward High School in Hollywood as part of an ongoing initiative to implement various food tastings in an effort to increase options on the lunch line. Students will be tasting hisBlack Bean and Plantain Quesadilla that he first introduced last year during the “Chefs Move to Broward” movement.

Chef Bowen created this quesadilla as a way to introduce new "meat-less" menu options in the cafeteria. Filled with beans, veggies and plantains, this dish is fun, delicious and healthy. His inspiration hails from his Boulud Sud menu, featuring cuisine inspired by flavors found in various Mediterranean countries including Spain, Italy, Greece, Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, and Turkey.

This initiative is a part of an ongoing partnership with Broward County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services and WITS.

Wellness in the Schools is a national non-profit that teaches kids healthy habits to learn and live better. They partner with public schools to provide nutrition and fitness education, healthy scratch-cooked meals and active recess periods. Trained culinary graduates partner with cafeteria staff to feed kids real food, and fitness coaches encourage schools to let kids play. Our approach improves student outcomes and drives systemic, long-term change, shifting school cultures and ultimately fighting the childhood obesity epidemic.
