Coconut Creek-based students to help fill the 500,000 construction worker shortage

Associated Builders and Contractors Institute’s (ABC Institute) mid-year class graduation ceremony celebrated the completion of education for 17 dedicated construction linemen apprentices. The ceremony was held at Timpano in Fort Lauderdale on January 26, 2019.

Each student was presented with a Certificate of Completion marking the conclusion of their apprenticeship education and earning journeyman status. Students spent three years working full-time during the day at their jobs while completing a minimum of 480 hours at the ABC Institute in the classroom and lab during the weekend.

“At a time when the construction industry is thriving, we’re excited to welcome these apprentices into the industry, said Peter Dyga, president and CEO of Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter. “They have dedicated years to developing their new skills. We wish them the best as they enter the next chapter of their careers with a solid foundation.”

In addition to receiving their certificates, ten students were honored for perfect attendance for the year, four were honored for three year perfect attendance and two were recognized for achieving the highest GPA in the class. Milwaukee Tool presented each student with tools as a parting gift.

With more than 476,000 apprentices in America, the Institute’s goal is to ensure each one receives proper education in their chosen trade. The Institute has multiple locations in Florida including Miami, Coconut Creek and Sarasota, and is home to 903 apprentices.
