AmWINS Group Inc., a global distributor of specialty insurance products, has reached an agreement to acquire The Flood Insurance Agency, a Florida-based managing general agency that specializes in private market flood insurance, for an undisclosed amount.

The Flood Insurance Agency was established in 1984 in Gainesville, Florida. It provides access to private market flood insurance as an alternative to the National Flood Insurance Program. The private flood insurance program insures over $4.5 billion of property spread over 25,000 risks and has registered over 3,000 independent agencies in 37 states to market the program.

“AmWINS is the largest specialty insurance distributor in the U.S., but more importantly is the ideal cultural fit for TFIA,” said Evan Hecht, founder and chief executive officer of The Flood Insurance Agency, in a statement. “Our specialized approach enables us to provide access to superior products and results for our clients and markets.”

The deal, which is expected to close in February, will “significantly increase” AmWINS’s capabilities for personal and commercial lines flood products, said Chief Executive Scott M. Purviance.

He added: “We’re incredibly excited to partner with Evan [Hecht] and his team. Their reputation in the flood market is unparalleled. Not only will TFIA enhance our personal lines flood product offerings, but also will provide us with the opportunity to distribute a new and innovative commercial flood product to our retail clients in the very near future.”

Terms of the transaction between AmWins and The Flood Insurance Agency were not disclosed.

AmWINS was founded in 1998 with its headquarters in Charlotte and has expanded worldwide. The company has over 4,200 employees across 100 locations in 30 states and 12 countries. AmWINS specializes in property, casualty, professional lines and specialty group benefit products.
