Free Outdoor Monthly Series in North Miami

What/Who:

Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is thrilled to welcome back The French Horn Collective as part of the monthly “Jazz at MOCA” series. The French Horn Collective is an energetic and progressive band that performs an extensive variety of Gypsy Jazz, Swing and modern original French music throughout South Florida. Led by Parisian musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer and songwriter, Vincent Raffard, the diverse group consists of highly talented musicians from various musical backgrounds.

The French Horn Collective finds inspiration from genres such as Gypsy Jazz, Hot Swing, Ska and Polka, formulating the group’s unique, progressive sound. The band has performed at top hotels and venues, with shows and residencies at the Four Seasons, 1 Hotel South Beach, Lagniappe, Eden Rock and the North Beach Bandshell among others. The group has also been featured in many music festivals such as Art Deco South Beach Festival, Gainesville Jazz Festival and Miami Nice Jazz Festival. The French Horn Collective will begin its performance at 8 p.m., rain or shine.

Prior to the performance, guests and their families are invited to enjoy a “Family Fun” event from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. outside of MOCA’s Pavilion Gallery where they can participate in a free arts and crafts project. Guests will get a preview for the upcoming MOCA Mini Makers, which is held the first Saturday of every month from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. for children ages 6 – 12. The event is first come, first serve and supplies are limited.

Guests may also enjoy MOCA’s groundbreaking exhibition “AFRICOBRA: Messages to the People,” celebrating the Chicago-based AFRICOBRA collective, in conjunction with the group’s 50th anniversary by donation from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. during Jazz at MOCA. AFRICOBRA’s visual language is defined by the use of text, bright "Coolade" colors, dynamic, gestural markings, and raw, emotive, celebratory images of confident black figures. This historic exhibition will explore the founders’ individual careers and the artists who exhibited with them between 1968-1973 as well as how AFRICOBRA’s philosophy manifested into their works as a group. The exhibition will be on display through April 7.
