MIAMI Realtors Partners to Host Miami Shores Plaza 98 Monthly Events

12/28/18

The MIAMI Association of Realtors (MIAMI) is partnering to host free monthly community events from 5-8 p.m. on Jan. 12, Feb. 9, March 9 and April 13 at Miami Shores’ new community destination, Plaza 98, at 9802 NE 2nd Ave. The events are open to all ages and feature family entertainment and games and food and drink for purchase.

MIAMI, sponsors and volunteers created the pedestrian-friendly space last year. The groups sought zoning approval and painted 10 multi-colored, intersecting pineapples on Plaza 98's asphalt to create the new Downtown Miami Shores destination for community gatherings.

“MIAMI Realtors is proud to bring more community events to Plaza 98,” said 2019 MIAMI Residential President Ines Hegedus-Garcia, a Miami Shores resident who led the Plaza 98 project. “Join us outdoors at our beautiful new plaza on the second Saturday of every month through April. Meet your neighbors, enjoy our new pedestrian-friendly plaza and discover new local businesses.”

MIAMI hosted several Plaza 98 community events last year and returned for another event on Dec. 8. Adults and children painted in an interactive art area, listened to music, played cornhole and jenga, etc. For more information, visit  www.MiamiShoresPlaza98.com

MIAMI Realtors partnered with the following entities for Plaza 98 events: Miami Shores Village, Miami Shores Community Alliance, Greater Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce, Miami-Dade Quick Build Program, Streetplans, and Don’t Look Down Productions.

Miami Realtors Changing Communities Initiative

Plaza 98 is part of MIAMI Realtors Changing Communities initiative, which launched in 2017. In 2018, MIAMI Realtors invested more than $175,000 in grant funds from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) to improve our South Florida communities.

Through member engagement and feedback, MIAMI developed a list of local community projects that could have the most impact. MIAMI invited its 46,000-plus membership for a brainstorming session and more than 200 members contributed ideas and volunteered to help.

In 2018, MIAMI led more than 18 local community initiatives, including a dinner for the homeless at Chapman Partnership in Miami, partnering to install a Jupiter dog park, creating a shaded Doral trolley stop and more. Each project was led by the Realtor who proposed it and supported by a team of fellow Realtor volunteers and a Realtor partner (usually an elected official).

More MIAMI Realtors Changing Communities initiatives are planned for 2019.
