Carmine “Tony” Colarusso To Speak On The Benefits Of Chi Kung On World Mental Health Day

10/2/18

This World Mental Health Day, October 10, 2018, Carmine “Tony” Colarusso, a master and Sifu of Chinese internal martial arts, will be lecturing on the benefits of chi kung (qi gong) as a stress management tool for local professionals.

Recent statistics from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) indicate that 1 in 5 Americans will experience a mental illness over the course of a year. Prolonged stress and traumatic experiences can also contribute to temporary symptoms of mental illness and are harmful to overall health. The NIMH therefore recognizes the importance of practicing activities like stress-coping programs incorporating meditation, Tai chi and other gentle exercises as effective aids in stress management.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, life’s daily challenges can limit the natural flow of energy in the body and often describes depression as a disharmony or blockage of the two main energy streams—yin and yang.

Using his knowledge of martial arts as practiced at the Southern Shaolin Temple in southern China including Zen meditation, Tai chi chuan (taiji) and chi kung (qi gong), Sifu Colarusso has helped hundreds of people around the world understand the nature, process, and benefits of cultivating and training with energy to calm the mind and overcome daily challenges.

“Sound mental health is vital for overall wellness but unfortunately many people do not know how to go about finding help. After having personally experienced the value of mastering the internal energy arts, my own life as a busy father and professional has been enriched. I felt compelled to share this gift with others in order to help them take control of their own health,” said Colarusso.

If you are interested in taking control of your mental health by adding these techniques to your self-care routine, join Sifu Carmine “Tony” Colarusso for a special World Mental Health Day session on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Historical Entrance Building at Pinecrest Gardens.
