Travelers Hotel Group Starts Construction on new Comfort Inn & Suites Near Miami International Airport

Limited-service hotel will complement two adjacent company properties

Travelers Hotel Group has started construction on a new 120-room Comfort Inn & Suites that will cater to leisure and business travelers seeking modern, affordable accommodations just minutes from Miami International Airport. The eight-story building, located at 665 Mokena Drive in Miami Springs, is expected to be completed sometime next summer. Aztec Group’s managing director, Boaz Ashbel, arranged a $15.2 million dollar construction loan.

“We’re delivering a fresh product to the limited-service market at the airport,” said Steven Marin, a principal of Travelers Hotel Group, which acquires, develops and manages hospitality properties in South Florida. “We feel this category is underserved as most of the new hotels here are select-service.”

The Comfort Inn & Suites will feature warm, inviting lobby spaces where guests can lounge and feel at home. Its innovative design devotes less space to registration and more to socializing. Guest room features will include Simmons® Beautyrest® pillow top beds, 50-inch smart TVs, refrigerators and microwaves, to name a few. And guests can connect to a wireless network from anywhere on the property.

“We want this hotel to be more than just a place for travelers to hang their hats overnight,” said Marin. “We designed it so they will feel comfortable coming out of their rooms and enjoy themselves in our common areas.”

Guests will also enjoy free transportation to and from the airport, PortMiami, a complimentary hot breakfast buffet daily, fitness room, meeting space, business center and an expanded marketplace for snacks, beverages and personal items.

When the new Comfort Inn & Suites is completed, it will be the third hotel in a three-block area that Travelers Hotel Group owns and operates, totaling close to 500 rooms. The other is a Comfort Suites that was developed in 2011 and a Days Inn. The company is also bringing Subway’s latest prototype store to NW 36 th Street, within walking distance of the hotels, an added amenity for guests.

Michael Pfeffer, a company principal, said they are trying to keep pace with increasing demand from air travelers.

“For the past seven years, Miami International Airport has broken its record for passenger growth,” said Pfeffer. “That translates to a need for new development in the area. We see nothing but upside going forward.”
