Students and Advisors Receive 2018 Aerospace Maintenance Competition Award

United Airlines on Tuesday, August 21 recognized ten students of the Broward College Emil Buehler Aviation Institute and faculty advisors for their outstanding performance during the 2018 Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC). Broward College aviation students received United Airline’s Competing with Professionalism Award, with each team member and advisor receiving a commemorative plaque and $250 cash prize. Senior Manager, Technician Hiring Programs at United Airlines Kim Pritchard traveled from San Francisco to present the awards.

“It is clear, based upon the number of votes provided by event judges, Broward College is doing something very right when it comes to providing exceptional technical skills training, along with elevated mentoring in the area of workplace professionalism,” she said. “Thank you Broward College, for preparing students for the workplace in a holistic way. Your program, faculty, and administrators are developing the whole person, not stopping at the technical minimums. Kudos to you, and to the team that represented the college so well at this year’s AMC competition.”

Pritchard who rose through the ranks of United Airlines from a Sheet Metal Technician in 1987 to her current position, used the opportunity to encourage students to explore the career paths available in the aviation industry including corporate positions. She also met with the inaugural class of the Broward College Dual Enrollment aviation program and other management officials.
