Broward College is proud to announce that its Health Sciences Simulation Center (HSSC) has been granted Provisional Accreditation in Teaching and Education from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

Broward College’s HSSC is now one of 20 simulation centers and simulation labs in Florida. The Provisional Accreditation has been granted for a two year period and will allow the HSSC to continue future growth with a major focus on faculty development in simulation, along with simulation research.

“Achieving provisional accreditation is a major milestone and we are extremely proud of our Health Sciences Simulation Center and the team behind it,” said Broward College President Gregory Adam Haile, Esq. “This accreditation positions Broward College as a premier center for academia, simulation research and community healthcare simulation.”

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare’s national review accreditation team identified several strengths in Broward College’s HSSC program including the quality improvement committee, internal data analytics, creative architectural design of the Simulation Center and central geographic location to all campuses with classes for nursing and Allied Health Sciences students. It was also recognized for its state-of-the-art hospital equipment, high fidelity mannequins, audio and video recording system, all which allow the students to experience real-life acute care in a clinical environment.

Broward College HSSC’s Provisional Accreditation in Teaching and Education was made possible under the leadership of Kathleen King, retired district director, Health Science Simulation Center, Broward College and Dr. Jennifer Jackson, medical director and key simulation specialist along with Deisy Mercado, Joseph Suarez and Thierry Montalbo from the Health Sciences Simulation Center team.

Broward College’s HSSC will be nationally recognized and receive its accreditation certificate at the International Meeting of Simulation in Healthcare in January 2019 in San Antonio, Texas.
