A Record $1.45 Million in College Scholarships Awarded by Broward Education Foundation to Broward County Students

It was joyous occasion for more than 300 seniors from Broward County Public Schools as they received scholarships ranging from $500 to four-year tuitions at Broward Education Foundation’s 2018 Scholarship Award Ceremony presented by BrightStar Credit Union.

Broward Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 dedicated to transforming the lives of Broward County Public School students through the support of quality education, awarded a record of $1.45 million in college scholarships.

Broward Education Foundation, which initiated the https://www.gofundme.com/stonemandouglasvictimsfund to raise funds for victims’ families, survivors and those impacted by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas tragedy, annually awards scholarships to qualifying students who fall short in their financial ability to pursue a post-secondary education. The scholarships are made possible by the generous support of companies, organizations and individual donors. There were 56Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students who received scholarships created in the wake of the tragedy.

“It’s fitting as Broward Education Foundation begins its 35th anniversary year and thanks to the generosity of both longstanding and new donors, we substantially exceeded a long-time goal of awarding more than $1 million in scholarships to students in need,” said Broward Education Foundation Board Chair Christina Fischer. “We commend each of these students for their hard work, dedication and perseverance and have full faith and confidence that they all have bright futures ahead of them.”

Last year, Broward County public high school graduates received more than $800,000 in scholarships. Over the last 30 years, more than 5,800 scholarships, totaling more than $13 million, have been awarded through the partnership of Broward Education Foundation, local universities, businesses and community leaders to provide Broward County Public School students who have the desire to pursue a post-secondary education with the opportunity to fulfill that dream.
