Sime Realty Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Sime, along with Ken Rosen of Kendar Realty, brokered the sale of the Books & Books office complex located at 255-265 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables, Florida.

Raimundo Lopez-Lima Levi and Eric Glinsky of Coral Gables-based accounting firm Lopez Levi Lowenstein Glinsky, P.A., andMitchell Kaplan, operator of the independent bookseller’s Coral Gables store, purchased the 41,763-square-foot iconic Downtown Coral Gables historic complex from owner DLGN HOLDINGS LLC for $15,000,000.

The transaction closed April 23.

The 22,500-square-foot lot on which the buildings are situated last traded in July 1998 for $1.66 million.

Kaplan opened the first Books & Books in 1982 in a small, 500-square-foot space in Coral Gables, just after dropping out of law school at the age of 25. The modest bookstore developed a very strong following, creating a literary movement Miami had never seen before. Mitchell’s vision of building an environment where like-minded people could gather, learn and discuss became a reality, especially now as an owner of the popular venue.

In the spring of 2001, the bookstore relocated to its current location, the exquisite 1926-built building at 255-265 Aragon Avenue, which is listed in the Coral Gables Register of Historic Places, across the street from the original store.
