Lisa McGlynn
Lisa McGlynn, attorney with the Tampa office of the national labor and employment law firm of Fisher Philips, is once again spearheading a team for Tampa Great Strides Walk. The 5K is the largest national fundraising event to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. McGlynn has been involved with this annual event for four years, including serving on the committee both in South Florida and Tampa.
Called “Lisa’s Legion,” her team, along with hundreds of other walkers and runners, will gather at Tampa’s Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park on Saturday, May 19 at 8 am to raise money for this important cause.
Statistics show that nearly 30,000 Americans live with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a chronic genetic disease that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs. While progress has been made in the battle against this devastating illness, there’s still no cure.
“What’s particularly compelling is that 1 in 29 people are a carrier for the disease, with no idea that they are,” said McGlynn,. “This is a disease that can be cured, but the research for that cure is only funded by regular people like us raising money and awareness anyway we can.”
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is leading the fight against the disease and is responsible for nearly every drug used to treat it. Funds raised through the foundation’s annual Great Strides 5k walk help make this progress possible.
