Aida Levitan, Ph.D.,
U.S. Century Bank (USCB) announced that the bank’s Board of Directors has appointed Aida Levitan, Ph.D., APR as chairman of the board effective May 1st. Dr. Levitan will succeed Alex Acosta, who resigned before his confirmation as U.S. Labor Secretary.
Dr. Levitan, president of The Levitan Group, Inc., was appointed to USCB’s Board of Directors in 2013. Her firm provides strategic branding and marketing consulting services to companies and organizations such as República and the Spanish Port of Bilbao. She is also the retired vice chair and president of Bromley, an agency that became the number one Hispanic advertising and PR agency in the U.S., and the co-founder of Sanchez & Levitan, which she sold to Publicis in 2003.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to build on the strong foundation left by Alex Acosta, a truly outstanding chairman,” said Dr. Levitan. “U.S. Century Bank has been developing and expanding programs to attract diverse markets. I look forward to working with the executive management team and employees in order to become the number one community bank in Florida, not only in terms of size but also in terms of the quality of our services and our bankers.”
“Throughout Aida’s career, she has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to our community,” said Luis de la Aguilera, president and CEO of U.S. Century Bank. “We are confident that under her direction, USCB will continue to build on its current momentum, generate sustainable growth, and continue to expand outreach as one of the largest Hispanic-owned community banks in the U.S.”
U.S. Century Bank just recently reported a net income of $1.9 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2017, and performance was significantly improved from the same period for last year. Growth was fueled by a $37 million increase in loans and a $26.3 million increase in deposits.
Last year U.S. Century Bank introduced an SBA Lending program and led the expansion of the residential product line to include a full range of products geared toward first-time home buyers, international purchasers, and investors. Programs were also developed to effectively serve homeowners associations and the specialized banking needs of South Florida law firms and their attorneys.
Dr. Levitan’s community and philanthropic activities include the founding and funding of ArtesMiami, Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes and supports Hispanic artists and cultural organizations. She also chairs the University of Miami’s Cuban Heritage Collection Amigos Board and serves on the boards of the Miami Spanish Cultural Center and the National Friends of the American Latino Museum. Until recently she served as Vice Chair of the National Smithsonian Latino Center Board. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She has a Ph.D. in Spanish literature from Emory University and a B.A. from the University of Miami.
