Capt. Mark Kelly
Executive Women of the Palm Beaches (EWPB) is proud to announce Capt. Mark Kelly as the keynote speaker of its 34th Annual Women in Leadership Award event (WILA). WILA will be held May 11, 2017, at the Cohen Pavilion at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and will welcome U.S. Navy Capt. Mark Kelly as keynote speaker.
Capt. Kelly is Commander of Space Shuttle Endeavour’s Final Mission (2011), Space and Aviation Contributor for NBC News/MSNBC and husband to former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
The highly distinguished Women in Leadership Awards are presented by EWPB, in recognition of local women who have sustained outstanding accomplishments and displayed generosity of spirit, commitment to integrity and diversity, and genuine connectedness with others in the community. Local award recipients represent the nonprofit/public, volunteer and private sectors; nominations are being accepted through Jan 27, 2017 at www.ewpb.org/wila. Tickets are $130 for EWPB members; $150 for friends and guests; and $80 for students. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
Highly decorated American astronaut, Capt. Kelly continues to secure his place in history, partnering with his identical twin brother, Scott, from the ground in a historic yearlong expedition and unprecedented NASA study on how space affects the human body. As the Space and Aviation Contributor for NBC News and MSNBC, he has provided the world with insider perspective and intimate coverage of the groundbreaking yearlong experiment.
Already an experienced aviator and retired U.S. Navy Captain, Kelly began his career as an astronaut in 1996. During his career, he spent more than 50 days in space and commanded both the Space Shuttle Endeavour, including its final flight in May 2011, and Space Shuttle Discovery. He is one of only two individuals who have visited the International Space Station on four different occasions.
In January 2011, Kelly became the center of international attention after the assassination attempt on his wife, former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Their story captivated the nation and resulted in the couple becoming a symbol of strength and perseverance.
Natalie Alvarez, Michelle N. DeLong, and Amy Morse will serve as co-chairs of the event. Proceeds benefit Executive Women of the Palm Beaches Foundation. To learn more and purchase tickets, visit http://www.ewpb.org/wila or call (561) 868-7070.
