In fall 2016, Chevron’s Fuel Your School Program raised $500,000 with the support of the Miami-Dade County community; once again achieving its fundraising goal bringing the total raised in Miami-Dade County to $2 million since 2013. Of the 555 classroom projects funded for teachers and students in 2016 alone,  the program generated funds for more than 256 projects focusing on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in the County. The Fuel Your School program ran from Sept. 1, 2016 to Nov. 15, 2016, and helped connect real world experiences to classroom learning for 68,014 students at 242 public schools in Miami-Dade County in 2016.

“Chevron is dedicated to providing a solid foundation for STEM learning and development,” said Wendy Lopez, Regional Social Investment Coordinator for U.S. East & Latin America at Chevron. “Through the Fuel Your School program, we support local education by helping to ensure students have the resources and opportunities they need to be successful in their future careers.”

The Fuel Your School program invited public school teachers from Miami-Dade County to post classroom projects at www.DonorsChoose.org beginning Sept. 1, 2016. Then, from Oct. 1, 2016 to Oct. 31, 2016, when consumers filled up with 8 or more gallons at  participating Chevron and Texaco stations, $1 was donated, totaling $500,000, to help fund eligible classroom projects. The program not only benefits students, but also teachers, giving them an opportunity to do something extra for their students that will encourage curiosity and spark imagination.

“Chevron’s Fuel Your School program enables the local community to help our schools,” said Barbara Mendizabal, South Region Superintendent for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. "Seeing the impact that this program has on our teachers and students is immeasurable.”

The 2016 Fuel Your School program was active in 18 markets in the U.S. and generated a total of $5,837,275 which funded 6,980 eligible classroom projects and benefitted 699,730 students. Since the program’s inception in 2010, more than $31,485,548 total funds have been raised, supporting 23,674 projects, and benefitting 17,717 teachers and 4,433 schools who participated.
