-FINE ART FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT CABA PRO BONO’S LEGAL ADVOCACY SERVICES-
The 12th Annual Art in the Tropics fundraiser hosted by CABA Pro Bono Legal Services recently celebrated local artists and the organization’s efforts to provide Miami-Dade with free legal assistance. The event took place at the Coral Gables Museum, and featured fine art influenced by Miami’s tropical landscape that was sold as part of a silent auction along with sponsor donated gift items.
The event raised money in support of CABA Pro Bono and its mission to change the lives of children, individuals and families in need through legal advocacy by providing free legal services to those who cannot otherwise afford it — regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation or national origin.
Each year, Art in the Tropics attracts the community’s lawyers, government officials, dignitaries, judges, and business leaders. This year’s generous donations directly helped underwrite costs associated with the organization’s legal advocacy services.
CABA Pro Bono continues to grow each year. Between 2014 and 2015, nearly 3,000 cases were closed, and the number of volunteer attorneys and pro bono hours has also significantly increased. Additionally, their foreclosure clinic hours at the courthouse have expanded up to three days a week, and they have partnered with other legal services providers to provide immigration and divorce clinics to serve and reach more members of the Miami-Dade community.
About CABA Pro Bono
CABA Pro Bono was established in 1984 by several of CABA’s past presidents to assist the needs of poor and indigent Spanish-speaking individuals in Miami-Dade County by connecting them with Spanish-speaking attorney volunteers. In 1992, CABA Pro Bono was nationally recognized by former President George H.W. Bush as a Points of Light affiliate. It is funded in part through grants awarded by the Florida Bar Foundation and proceeds raised at CABA’s annual “Art in the Tropics” fundraising cocktail party. In 2013, CABA Pro Bono also began collaborating with other organizations to provide additional services to veterans, active members of the armed forces, victims of human trafficking and unaccompanied immigrant minors.
