FLIPANY (Florida Introduces Physical Activity and Nutrition to Youth) Recognized in the Wellness/Lifestyle Programs Category
The non-profit organization FLIPANY (Florida Introduces Physical Activity and Nutrition to Youth) was recently awarded with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Healthcare Award in the Excellence in Wellness/Lifestyle Program category. The award was presented to FLIPANY President, CEO and Founder Lynne Kunins on Nov. 17 at the Excellence in Healthcare Awards Luncheon™, which followed the Sunshine Health Perspectives on Florida’s Healthcare™ Conference at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa.
The Excellence in Wellness/Lifestyle Program award recognizes a community-based program administered by a Broward-based non-profit organization whose influence extends beyond the population it serves.
While serving in the private sector, Kunins saw firsthand the effects that food insecurity and obesity had on youth, working poor families, and the communities they lived in. She founded FLIPANY to empower youth and adults through physical activity and nutrition programs, while raising awareness and creating policy changes for healthier communities.
“At FLIPANY, we are honored to be recognized with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Healthcare Award,” said Kunins. “FLIPANY’s goal is to help people find the motivation, know-how, and resources to lead a better, healthier life.”
Kunins started FLIPANY 11 years ago with $2,000 in the bank and two part-time employees. Today, FLIPANY employs 19 full-time and 4 part-time staff members, providing 10 different health and wellness programs to Florida residents. It raises an average of $500,000 annually through grant writing, fundraising and contracts; and manages a budget of more than $2 million with plans to grow by at least 35 percent over the next three years.
