CEOs And Principals Gather to Exchange Ideas

South Florida Business Executives and School Principals will gather at Miami Jackson High School to discuss how their partnerships are bringing innovation to the classroom and improving the quality of education in public schools.

More than 60 executives and school principals are expected to attend the networking session as part of the Council for Educational Change’s executive partnering program called Executive PASS©. The networking session will take place at 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Miami Jackson High School, located at 1751 NW 36th St, Miami.Coffee and light refreshments will be served at 8:45 a.m. The press is encouraged to attend.

The partnerships are a signature program of the Council for Educational Change, a statewide nonprofit organization based in Weston. Under the program, seasoned business executives mentor school principals on things such as strategic planning, problem solving, team building, innovative thinking and a myriad of other leadership skills required to improve education.

During the networking session, Miami Jackson High School Principal Carlos Rios will highlight the business executive/principal partnerships at his own school and Eneida Hartner Elementary. Principal Rios partners with Miami-Dade College’s Dr. Victor Vazquez-Hernandez and Raymond James Financial Group Executive Scott Barkow. The partnership with Dr. Vazquez-Hernandez advises the principal on opportunities and programs for the staff and students that can take place on the Miami-Dade College’s Wolfson campus. He also offers insights into the various courses, financial aid and topics of interest to the parents and students. Mr. Barkow offers financial insights and speaks with student groups, among other things.

Eneida Hartner Elementary Principal Dr.Derick R.McKoy partners with Marivel Andreu of Celedinas Insurance Group. The school serves five homeless shelters so Ms. Andreu helps the principal bring art to the students. She often provides tours to art galleries, brings speakers as appropriate and more.

“The key focus of the partnership is to further enhance the leadership skills that principals need in order to drive student academic performance and foster a culture of excellence,” said Dr. Elaine Liftin, the Council’s President and Executive Director. "The partnership is a catalyst for enhancing programs that benefit students and ultimately improve our economy. Improving academic performance of students nurtures our future workforce. It’s a win-win for both partners.”

At this event, attendees will learn about success stories that are the result of the numerous Executive PASS partnerships created by the Council across the region and the State.
