Florida Institute for Health Innovation Presents Regional Symposium on Preparedness for Mass Casualty Events

Mass Casualties: Preparing for the Worst While Providing the Best, a symposium on community preparedness for the healthcare industry, will be presented on Monday, Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Forkas Alumni Center at Florida Atlantic University. The symposium is organized by the Florida Institute for Health Innovation (FIHI).

The program will delve into aspects of preparation and response to mass casualty events, including hurricanes, fires, floods, and violence, plus the role of the media. Speakers include:

- Eric R. Alberts, Emergency Preparedness, Orlando Health

- David Begnaud, CBS News Correspondent

- Carlos Castillo, CEM, Regional Disaster Officer, American Red Cross

- Susan Forbes, Vice President, Marketing and Communications, OneBlood

- Kenneth Goodman, Ph.D., Director, UM Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy

- Mike Jachles, PIO, Broward Sheriff’s Office

- Richard Scott McFarland, M.D., Emergency Physician, TeamHealth

- Daniel J. Oates, Chief of Police, City of Miami Beach, formerly of Aurora, Colorado

- Colonel Noel Christian Pace, J.D., FAU Emergency and Crisis Management

- Andrew A. Rosenthal, M.D., Medical Director, Memorial Healthcare Division of Trauma, and

FIHI. “With this symposium, we aim to equip our health systems and our communities with information and knowledge that can be used to save lives.”
