Child Safety initiatives will be highlighted at a luncheon sponsored by the Monique Burr Foundation for Children on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 11:30 a.m. at the University of North Florida.
Erin Merryn, a national advocate and survivor of child sexual abuse, will be the keynote speaker. She is the author of three books: Stolen Innocence, Living for Today and An Unimaginable Act. Her advocacy has led to a version of Erin’s Law being passed in 28 states and another 18 states are considering a proposed law. For more information, visit www.erinslaw.org.
Several key supporters will receive the Champions for Child Safety Award for work to prevent child abuse and bullying. The awardees will include Erin Merryn; Florida State Senator Rob Bradley; Florida State Senator Aaron Bean; and 11 school facilitators from throughout Florida who have implemented the MBF Child Safety Matters™ program for the past five years.
“Parents, educators, advocates and concerned citizens are invited to join us on Sept. 28 to meet from Erin Merryn. . We will also be honoring educators and citizens who are active in prevention education,” said Lynn Layton, executive director, Monique Burr Foundation for Children. “The MBF Child Safety Matters™ program, research-based and evidence informed education, is making a real difference throughout Florida and in some other states.”
