7/25/16

Workshop Designed to Spark Autism Entrepreneurship in Various Communities

Who/What: Rising Tide U, which provides a road map for families who believe starting a business is their only way to help loved ones with autism build a future, and University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (UM-NSU CARD), are hosting a one-day Awakening the Autism Entrepreneur Workshop at The Els Center of Excellence in Jupiter, Florida. This workshop, presented by The Els Center of Excellence and FAU CARD, is targeted toward parents, self-advocates and service providers who are interested in starting competitive businesses built on the strengths of individuals with autism.

Rising Tide U is an entity of Rising Tide Car Wash, a Parkland, Florida-based pioneering social enterprise that helps young people with autism build a career and achieve an independent lifestyle. UM-NSU CARD has a mission to provide support and assistance with the goal of optimizing the potential of people with autism and related disabilities.

The workshop, which is available to be held in any community around the U.S., covers several subjects, including:

What it’s like to be an autism entrepreneur — from real entrepreneurs

How to avoid the common mistakes many others have made

How to ideate potential business models

How to test ideas and take the first step in becoming an entrepreneur

Who else in the community is interested in taking this journey with the entrepreneur

Rising Tide Car Wash COO Thomas D’Eri and CFO Thomas Sena, and UM-NSU CARD Executive Director Michael Alessandri will co-facilitate the workshop. In 2013, Thomas D’Eri and his father, John D’Eri, launched Rising Tide to create a supportive environment where young adults with autism, including Thomas’ brother and John’s son, 23-year-old Andrew D’Eri, could thrive and achieve independence.
