Hunton & Williams LLP Miami partners Gustavo J. Membiela and Uriel A. Mendieta have been honored in the 2016 Up & Comer Awards by South Florida Business & Wealth magazine and Lifestyle Media group. The Up & Comer Awards recognize young professionals throughout South Florida from a diversity of industries for the dedication they show to their profession and the communities they serve.

Gustavo J. Membiela was selected as winner in the category of Law for Miami-Dade County. A partner in the firm’s Cuba practice and member of its International Arbitration and Latin America practices, Membiela handles a wide variety of commercial matters, focusing on cross-border disputes, transnational arbitrations and class action litigation. Membiela gives back to the community by handling a range of pro bono matters over the years, such as immigration matters, guardianship issues or wrongful imprisonment. He also serves on the board of Amigos for Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

Uriel A. Mendieta was named a finalist in Law for Miami-Dade County. Mendieta is a member of the firm’s Latin America and Cuba practice groups. He focuses his practice on general corporate representation, including mergers and acquisitions, structured finance, and national and international project finance. Mendieta is a member of the Hunton & Williams’ pro bono committee, and actively supports the United Way of Miami-Dade as a committee member for its Annual Associate Legal Mingle reception event that brings the legal community together to raise money for the charity.
