6/2/16

A percentage of elephantea profits will help fund the worlds first EleFriendly Bus in the Wasgamuwa elephant corridor of Sri Lanka

elephantea, a groundbreaking range of handpicked tea from Ceylon, Sri Lanka, united with the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society (SLWCS) to unveil today the world’s first EleFriendly Bus outside of the Wasgamuwa National Park in Sri Lanka. The 24-passenger bus will educate children and their families about elephant conservation while transporting them safely through the elephant corridor.

“It is a privilege for elephantea to have the opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of these magnificent animals and the people who live among them,” said Ron and Shani Atapattu, co-founders of elephantea. “Together with the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society we hope to create a movement for change.”

On a daily basis, children endanger their lives walking to and from school in the Wasgamuwa National Park region, and every day elephants are the target of angry villagers who shoot to frighten or even kill them. elephantea’s mission of creating some of the finest teas in the world to help save wild elephants in Sri Lanka directly aligns with the EleFriendly Bus initiative.

“The elephantea team comes from a long line of Sri Lankan tea growers and elephant activists, so the partnership with this dedicated organization was a natural fit,” said Ravi Corea, Founder and President of the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society. “We are so thankful for their generous support in helping us move our mission forward.”
