After Rain Delay, Sunshine & Hope Mark Spark 2020

11/2/20

The 4th annual SPARK with Luly B was held on Tuesday October 27, one week after its original intended date. The live empowerment experience, held for the first time ever as a drive-in, was postponed from its original October 20 date due to inclement weather, and consolidated from two half-day sessions to one day-long event. Still, the mood, excitement and purpose of the gathering remained intact, with over 200 participants dancing, singing, journaling and looking ahead to the new year.

The brainchild of SPARK, Luly B Carreras, aka Luly B, greeted guests while riding atop a convertible car, seting the stage for a different kind of experience at her annual empowerment event. She then took the stage to deliver her message of empowerment and to celebrate the women in attendance who have found new careers, purpose, interests and ways of giving back to the community during quarantine. Luly B. herself spoke of the personal challenges she faced this year, including her father’s battle with a critical case of COVID-19 in April.

“Every moment of struggle and fear has only ever brought me closer and closer to my purpose,” says Luly B. “Having my father and mother in the audience was extra special this year. Even through the setbacks — the high winds and rains — it was all worth it to have a day like today.”

SPARK guests rolled up to the car selfie station at registration and they were treated to special “swag bags” with all kinds of treats from local woman-owned busineses, including stones from Meraki Design Tribe and a cookbook “Not Just Tacos” by Shirley Solis and all kinds of goodies from sponsors, Baptist Health South Florida and Florida Blue including pineapple popsicles, face masks, hand santizer and snacks. Attendees parked at their designated spots and picnicked under sunny skies from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.

Throughout the day, Luly B. welcomed guest speakers and panelists who shared their stories within the context of this year’s theme, “embrace the pain, pivot, and impact."”.Tuesday’s lineup includeda diverse group of health, business, and wellness experts from a variety of industries, including a musical performance by Mexican singer and La Voz semi-finalist, Adrianna Foster, and LIVE inspirational stories from South Florida movers and shakers including Vanessa James of Vanessa James Media, Sili Recio, author of “If Dominican were a Color,” Dr. Betsy Guerra, author of “Hurt to Hope” and DeAnne Connolly Graham of ROI Media Consultants.
