
Broward College announced that one of its students and three alumni were recently drafted during the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.
The 2018 MLB draft consisted of 40 rounds over three days and 1,214 picks. Of those fortunate players drafted to play professional baseball, four were former Broward College Seahawks: Rigo Beltran, Christian Reyes, Daniel Reyes, and Onix Vega.
Vega, a catcher for Broward College was picked in the 20th round by the Washington Nationals.
Daniel Reyes, an outfielder, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 28th round.
Beltran, the son of a former MLB pitcher, Rigo was drafted to the Seattle Mariners in the 31st round.
Christian Reyes was chosen by the Los Angeles Angels in the 21st round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
“Every athlete’s dream is to make it in the big leagues so to receive the news that these aspiring young men had been drafted was an incredibly proud moment,” said Ben Bizier, the Broward College Men’s Baseball Head Coach. “I can’t wait to see what they accomplish.”
