What better way to kick off summer than with a boat ride along the Intracoastal celebrating graduation and academic achievements?

The children from Children’s Harbor got to do just that, thanks to Children’s Harbor founder Bill Mahoney, who treated the children to a Graduation Dinner Cruise on his yacht, the Bottom Line.

“When a child experiences trauma, it significantly impacts their academic performance, said Tiffani Dhooge, Children’s Harbor COO. “We are so proud of their accomplishments during the school year and grateful to Mr. Mahoney for always looking for ways to champion and celebrate our children.”

It was also announced during the cruise that Children’s Harbor was awarded a $15,000 grant from New York Life through its Community Impact Grant Program.

"We are thrilled to award a $15,000 grant to Children's Harbor in recognition of Bill Mahoney’s philanthropic leadership,” said Lacey Siegel, NY Life communications and media. “From all of the applications, Children’s Harbor’s rose to the top because of the compelling need for funding in the community and the organization’s incredible commitment to the cause – two key components in our decision for funding.”

Mahoney, Dhooge and Children’s Harbor board members Sherry Stein, Marty Alexander and Karla Nickell accompanied the children on the Graduation Dinner Cruise.

About Children’s Harbor

Established in 1996, Children’s Harbor is a nationally accredited nonprofit agency with a mission to provide a safe harbor and support to at risk children, youth, and families-keeping brothers and sisters together, strengthening families, and guiding youth towards independence.

On our main campus in Pembroke Pines, Children’s Harbor provides nurturing, family group homes for 24 siblings and 12 pregnant/parenting teens in the foster care system with therapeutic, academic, and life skills services to improve the lives of children, youth, and families across Broward County. And on the Howard C. Forman Campus, an extraordinary collaboration between Children’s Harbor, benefactors Ashley and Ed Brown and their nonprofit, Selfless Love Foundation, ChildNet, and the City of Pembroke Pines, has created Brown’s Harbor, a supportive housing program for former foster youth, ages 18 – 23.
