Metropica Supports Wings for Life World Run in Getting 580,888 Miles Closer to a Cure

Metropica, the $1.5 million mixed-use project soon to become Western Broward’s true downtown, recently sponsored the local Wings for Life World Run, which went from Sunrise to West Palm Beach, spanning 60 miles. Metropica’s sales team manned a hydration station at the 8.5 mile mark, helping to fuel athletes on, and also had a lounge area at the race’s final destination at the BB&T Center, where runners and guests could relax and refresh. The race showcased Metropica’s commitment to the Sunrise and South Florida communities while helping to fund important spinal cord research.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the fifth annual Wings for Life World Run to help raise funds for spinal cord injury research,” said Joseph Kavana, CEO of Metropica Development, LLC. “It has been an honor to be involved and help ensure Sunrise and Western Broward’s participation in this important event.”

With 100 percent of proceeds going directly to the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation, over 100,000 registered runners and wheelchair participants at more than 200 locations across 66 countries covered 580,888 miles globally to raise funds for spinal cord injury research. Five and a half hours of camaraderie and competition shared across every continent produced unforgettable moments of elation and emotion leading to Swedish adventurer, Aron Anderson stealing the show in Sunrise. Pushing through sun, heat and rain, Anderson set a new Wings for Life World Run U.S. Distance Record of 55.83 miles, which he traveled in just under six hours. Also finishing atop their divisions in Sunrise were Nathalie Vasseur (Top Female Runner) who went 30.29 miles, Tiphany Adams (Female Wheelchair Division) who went 10.13 miles, and Louis Amaro (Male Wheelchair Division) who traveled 9.1 miles.
