Raising money to help those and their families in the local community live better – together – with Parkinson’s Disease.
Parkinson’s Foundation South Palm Beach County Chapter “Rocked the Runway” once again with its Annual Fashion Show that dazzled guests during the sold-out event at Boca Rio Golf Club on the crisp evening of Friday, January 19.
This year’s fun-filled evening of elegance was chaired by Gail Milhous. It showcased fashion items by Chukkers, Boca’s finest women’s specialty shop with clothing for all occasions, and European specialty men’s store Guy La Ferrera that sells brands such as Brioni, Ermenegildo Zegna, Zilli and Cole Haan. Exquisite and custom-made jewelry also was showcased by the 80-year-old, family-run Van Dell Jewelers.
The event raised critically needed funds to help those and their families in the local community to live better – together – with Parkinson’s Disease.
“Our goal at the Parkinson’s Foundation South Palm Beach County Chapter is to make life better for those living with Parkinson’ Disease by educating and empowering the Parkinson’s community,” said Robin Miller, executive director. “Locally, we offer wellness classes, support groups and educational programs for those in our community. On a national level, we have made great strides, but so much more is needed to understand the disease that affects nearly one million Americans and 10 million worldwide.”
Each year, there are 60,000 new cases of Parkinson’s Disease diagnosed in the U.S. The average onset age is mid 60s. The prevalence of this disease is expected to increase substantially in the next 20 years due to the aging population. It is the second most neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s. There is no cure for Parkinson’s Disease, but treatments are available to improve quality of life.

About Parkinson’s Disease
Affecting an estimated one million Americans and 10 million worldwide, PD is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s and is the 14th-leading cause of death in the United States. It is associated with a progressive loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor at rest and lack of facial expression) as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). There is no cure for PD and 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the United States alone.
