The Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale (JLGFL) received the Community Group Volunteer Award from Broward Partnership at its 2017 Volunteer Recognition Awards Luncheon. The luncheon honored individuals or organizations in six different categories, all of whom have made a significant impact in South Florida.
“It is a privilege to receive this award – this is a testament to the wonderfully dedicated team of women that comprise Junior League,” said Jill Banaszak, JLGFL President. “Broward Partnership does so much for the homeless and we are happy to be a part of their initiative and to work in tandem to find ways to end the cycle of homelessness.”
Broward Partnership built and operates the Broward County Central Homeless Assistance Center on the Huizenga Campus. The residential shelter was funded almost entirely with private donations. The Broward Partnership provides short-term housing and solution-focused services to individuals and families. Since it's opening, the Partnership has assisted more than 23,400 individuals.
JLGFL received the award at a special ceremony aboard the Carnival Splendor on June 10.
The Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale was established in 1937 to provide the community with willing volunteers in civic and child welfare work. Over its 80 year history, the organization has invested millions of dollars, matched by millions of volunteer hours, in improving the lives of our neighbors right here in Broward County. JLGFL has created several of Broward County's top charitable organizations, including Jack and Jill Children's Center, Kids in Distress, SOS Children's Village, Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center, and the Museum of Discovery and Science.
