Mayor Tomas Regalado Set To Proclaim June 8, 2017 as "Baby Heatstroke Awareness Day"
WHO/WHAT:
Gulliver Prep student Kelly-Ann Consentino '19 will receive a proclamation in recognition of her civic and commitment activities as an activist for educating people on the dangers of baby heatstroke. During a scheduled city commission Miami City Hall, Mayor Tomas Regalado will establish June 8, 2017 as "Baby Heatstroke Awareness Day." This recognition is equivalent to the Keys of the City.
After watching many devastating news stories about babies forgotten in the backseats of cars and dying of heatstroke, Kelly-Ann knew she wanted to help. With her own funding, she created www.babyheatstroke.org, designed rear-view mirror hangtags, that are available free-of-charge for anyone who requests one on her website and serve to remind drivers of children in the backseat. Her website features videos, statistics on the history of heatstroke, information on related laws, as well as details of her community service work promoting the initiative locally around retail stories and other public places.
