Art by four Broward County high-schoolers selected as best works

Boies Schiller Flexner LLP celebrated the work of Broward County high school students at a May 3rd luncheon honoring the winners of the law firm’s first “Art in the Office” scholarship contest. The judges selected four winners from numerous creative submissions on the theme of “Features of Fort Lauderdale.”

The scholarship was a joint initiative between the law firm’s Fort Lauderdale office and local nonprofit Cary’s Kids, named after Caryl Boies, the daughter of the firm’s chairman, David Boies.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of entries and the remarkable creativity of the students who submitted paintings and drawings for us to consider,” said Stuart Singer, the head of the Fort Lauderdale office and one of the judges. “We saw tremendous talent and are proud to have these mini-masterpieces hanging in our workplace.”

First place winner was Susann Orozco of Northeast High School, who created a detailed picture called “Paradise Postcard.” Second place went to Kiana Kidder from Cypress Bay High School in Weston with her presentation titled “Love for Las Olas.” Kimberly Nicholson, from Northeast High School, was third with “Fort Lauderdale By Night.” Cheyenne Allen, also from Northeast High School, won an honorable mention for her piece titled “Sea Critters.”

The contest judges were Stuart and Rose Singer, Nicole Penny and Winnifred Pelletieri. Submitted entries were evaluated for creativity, fidelity to the theme, and overall impression.

“It was a wonderful response, and we look forward to doing this every year,” said Singer.
